Auto Injuries

"If you were in a recent car accident, you may need chiropractic care or attention."

There were tens of thousands of car accidents in Portland last year. Car accidents are a fact of life in today’s world. Many car accidents appear minor in damage but can leave people with a lifetime of problems.

Even if you are not currently in pain, there may be underlying and hidden damage to your spine and muscles. Whiplash and other car accident injuries may take weeks to start producing pain. Injuries to the neck, back, arms and legs can become progressively worse without proper treatment.

An article published in the Journal of Orthopedic Medicine in 1999 pointed out the superiority of chiropractic care for patients suffering from long term whiplash. The authors of the article noted that a previous study had shown that 26 of 28 patients, or 93 percent of patients with chronic whiplash became better with chiropractic care. The author went on to state that “chiropractic is the only proven effective treatment for whiplash.”

Your Treatment is Covered 100%

Many people make the mistake of not coming for treatment because they don't have health insurance. Injuries from car accident are paid under the auto insurance policy. This insurance (called PIP) is mandatory in Oregon. Our treatment is fully covered by automobile insurance policies, no matter who is at fault, and no matter whether you were the driver, a passenger, or a pedestrian. Our office accepts car insurance payments as payment in full (no co-pay or deductible). We will submit the necessary insurance paper work and help you file a claim with the auto insurance company.

Success Story

Billy was injured in a car accident. He didn’t have health insurance, so he didn’t go for treatment for three weeks till a friend recommended him to our office. We advised him that the auto insurance will cover his treatment 100% at our office. Billy presented with neck and back pain that radiated down into his arms and legs. He was sent out for x-rays and subsequent MRI’s which confirmed the presence of disc bulges and disc herniations to his neck and back. He underwent conservative treatment at our office consisting of heat, intersegmental traction (flexion/distraction), muscle stripping, active stretches and exercises and adjustments. At the two month re-evaluation, he noted that he was 65% better.

Auto & Work Injury Center has success stories like this happen every day. Call our office to schedule an appointment for an evaluation so you can start feeling better today 503-282-4878.

Neck Injuries

Exray of a Near Normal Neck Curve

Near Normal Neck Curve

This is a side x-ray view of the neck. Compare this spine with the ones you will see below on this page.

Normal vertebrae in other parts of the spine also have similar characteristics to what we see here. Uncorrected changes to this curve can result in damage to the structure and function of the spine, discs and nerves.

Whiplash

Moderate Whiplash - Car Accident Victim

Car accidents typically result in whiplash to the neck (98% in a study by Emergency Radiology). Whiplash results in a loss in the normal curve of the spine. On this example you can see that the spine is straighter than the normal spine above. Chiropractic treatment at this phase has an excellent chance of restoring the spine back to the normal phase. If left uncorrected, it will continue to progress with time until it eventually reaches the next phase.

Arthritis

Arthritis in the Neck

The curvature is abnormal and the disc spaces are vastly decreased. Spurs have developed in the front part of the spine. Normally, people in this phase have a restricted range of motion and probably exhibit symptoms of some kind. In phase three the vertebrae show obvious changes and mutations in shape. Treatment at this phase cannot restore the spine back to normal. Treatment is for pain control only.
